Mount Vernon Wildcats Football VS North Posey 10-17-25

The Mount Vernon Wildcats reclaimed the Posey County Cup in thrilling fashion Friday night, outlasting the rival North Posey Vikings 54–37 in one of the most explosive games in the rivalry’s history. Behind a near-flawless offensive performance and a career night from senior running back Shane Krieger, the Wildcats stormed to over 570 yards of total offense, putting on a show for their home crowd and finishing the regular season at 6–3.

Krieger was nothing short of dominant, carrying the ball 37 times for 253 yards and five touchdowns, powering through would-be tacklers all night. His ability to find seams and break into the second level set the tone for the Wildcats’ ground attack. Quarterback Ryder Snodgrass complemented the rushing game perfectly, completing 14 of 16 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns, adding 24 rushing yards and another score of his own. Snodgrass’s poise in the pocket and command of the offense were evident throughout, helping the Wildcats find the end zone on eight different drives.

In the air, Nash Hostetter was unstoppable, hauling in six receptions for 133 yards and two long touchdowns, including strikes of 50 and 55 yards that broke the game open in the second half. Brady Schickel caught three passes for 52 yards and a touchdown, while Logan Clowers added three receptions for 83 yards to round out a balanced and dangerous receiving corps. Luke Weintraut chipped in two catches for 21 yards, while both Weintraut and Snodgrass made big plays defensively, each intercepting passes to stall Viking drives and swing momentum back to Mount Vernon.

While the Wildcats rolled up points, the game was far from clean. Mount Vernon was flagged eight times for 62 yards, several of which extended North Posey drives or stalled their own. Still, their ability to overcome those mistakes with explosive plays and strong line play proved to be the difference. The Wildcat defense bent but didn’t break, containing Viking star Bret Buecher just enough to keep the lead safe late in the fourth quarter.

The win capped off a strong regular season for Mount Vernon, who finishes 6–3 heading into sectional play. Head coach Justin Fischer's team has found its rhythm at the right time, riding the balanced play of Snodgrass, Krieger, and Hostetter to close the season on a high note. With their offense clicking and a defense capable of creating takeaways, the Wildcats look poised to make noise in the postseason.

Next up, Mount Vernon hits the road to face Southridge in the sectional opener.
